What a wonderful time our Reception Class had visiting Abbotsbury Swannery! The children thoroughly enjoyed exploring the beautiful surroundings and learning about the many different birds that call the swannery home.
We were lucky enough to see lots of magnificent Mute Swans and their adorable cygnets. As we walked around the site, we also spotted a variety of other birds, including Canada Geese, Coots, Mallards with their ducklings, and even a Tufted Duck. The children were excited to observe the birds up close and learn more about their habitats and behaviours.
One of the highlights of the day was having the opportunity to feed the swans, which was a memorable experience for everyone. After all the exploring, we enjoyed a delicious picnic together, giving us time to relax and chat with our friends while taking in the lovely scenery.
We were incredibly fortunate with the weather, as the sunshine stayed with us throughout the day and made our visit even more enjoyable. The children were a credit to the school, showing great enthusiasm, curiosity, and excellent behaviour throughout the trip. A wonderful time was had by all, and we returned home with lots of happy memories from a truly special day.
What an incredible Year 6 residential at PGL! Despite the soaring temperatures, our children were absolutely amazing from start to finish. They showed resilience, determination, teamwork, and enthusiasm in every activity, embracing every challenge with smiles on their faces. We are so proud of the way they supported one another, stepped outside their comfort zones, and represented our school so brilliantly. They have created memories and friendships that will last a lifetime. A huge thank you to the staff who made the trip possible and ensured everyone stayed safe and had a fantastic time in the heat. Well done, Year 6you were outstanding!
With the current Red Heat Alert and warmer weather, this is a friendly reminder about staying safe around the coast and open water. Please see the poster for some important water safety advice.
To help everyone stay comfortable in the heat, we've been making the most of our air-conditioned classrooms, opening classrooms at lunchtime, and running our indoor quiet lunch club. KS1 also enjoyed an earlier lunch to avoid the hottest part of the day. There's been plenty of shade-seeking, water play, and water-drinking throughout the day too! A big thank you to our PTFA for the ice pops (and lollies for staff!) delivered today – they went down a treat!

Year 3 had a blast at their overnight school sleepover! There was playing, basketball, football, climbing, yoga, swinging, dancing, eating ... and even a little bit of sleeping! It was a great opportunity for them to spend a night away from home, in a familiar setting with familiar adults. We hope it makes them feel more confident the next time they need to sleep away from home. We hope their parents enjoyed a nice evening off also :)
Year 6 were very excited to see a special visitor in Portland Marina -a friendly stingray came to say hello, much to the amazement of instructors. No, it was not a shark!
Last Wednesday, year 6 had a brilliant morning kayaking and splashing around on a giant paddleboard in the rain-it did not stop play!
Eden Pre School had the most incredible time at Farmer Palmers with their friends from St John's on Thursday. There was lots of excitement about seeing goats and sheep, holding guinea pigs and climbing on all the fun equipment! The children and grown ups were all exhausted after a fantastic day!
During the spring term, our Year 4 children took part in a very special project, creating and recording their own radio dramas as part of Stories by the Sea. Families across the whole school are invited to join an exclusive guided walk during half term to experience the audio trail and hear the children's work brought to life in our own town. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the creativity of our children and hear the published radio dramas as part of a unique community project.
Thank you to all the children who took part in the Whacky Wheels competition yesterday, it was amazing to see how creative you had all been! and a special congratulations to our competition winners!
What a success our school disco on Friday was! There was certainly some amazing moves displayed on the dance floor by children, staff and parents alike!
Our Year 6's have been enjoying their breakfast club this week, ensuring each of them are getting all the brain power they need for their SAT's!
