At Beechcroft St Paul’s Primary School, the Primary PE and Sport Premium is used strategically to enhance the quality and breadth of our physical education, ensuring all pupils benefit from enriched sporting experiences and develop lifelong healthy habits.
Our vision is to provide every child with access to both competitive sport and enjoyable physical activity from the moment they join us in Reception through to Year 6. Funding supports high-quality equipment for gross motor skill development in the Early Years, enabling strong physical foundations to be built from the outset.
The grant also strengthens leadership and competitive opportunities. Our PE Lead, Mr Fuhrmann, serves as Chairperson of the Weymouth & Portland Primary Sports Leader Group, ensuring pupils have access to up to 40 sporting events across the academic year. Through Sport Premium funding, children are able to participate in a wide range of competitions and festivals, increasing engagement, confidence and school representation within the local community.
We use the grant to broaden pupils’ experiences beyond the National Curriculum, providing access to activities such as windsurfing, sailing, climbing and archery. These opportunities expose children to the extensive sporting provision available within our coastal locality and encourage sustained participation beyond primary school.
Recognising our unique coastal context, a significant priority of our Sport Premium spending is swimming and water safety. From Year 3 to Year 6, all pupils attend a block of swimming lessons annually. This sustained investment ensures increasing numbers of pupils meet and exceed national swimming expectations, equipping them with essential life skills and promoting safety in and around water.
Through careful and purposeful use of the Sport Premium, we ensure improved participation, increased confidence, enhanced staff expertise and measurable progress in swimming competency — ultimately supporting pupils to lead safe, active and healthy lives.
