Personal Development and British Values

Personal Development Intent

At Beechcroft, we recognise that the primary years are a key time for children to develop their own identity and aspirations for the future. As well as academic development, it is essential that children are given opportunities, through the curriculum and beyond, for Personal Development.

We understand the crucial role we can play in helping children to prepare for their adult lives so they can go on to engage positively in society.  The opportunities we can offer them while at Beechcroft will impact upon their future, helping them to develop the core values we hold at our school.

Our aim is to teach children how to navigate through life safely, happily and healthily. Children are growing up in a world that is constantly changing and it is the duty of all the staff at school in partnership with the parents to teach the children transferable life skills.

We teach children about the world around them, relationships, emotions, reproduction and health, as well as transferable skills to help with life.

The vision for Personal Development at Beechcroft is that:

  • Children have opportunities throughout their time at Beechcroft to have rich and varied experiences
  • All children develop their 'Cultural Capital' whilst at Beechcroft
  • Physical and Mental well-being are priorities as much as academic achievements
  • Families and involved where ever possible, to support all areas of their child's Personal Development

How do we promote Personal Development at Beechcroft St Pauls C of E Primary School?

Promoting Fundamental British Values.

In accordance with The Department for Education we aim to actively promote British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is "right" and "wrong", all people living in England are subject to its law.

The Key Values are:

  • democracy
  • rule of law
  • individual liberty
  • mutual respect
  • tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs
