Children's Mental Health Week 6th-12th February

The week is run by children's mental health charity Place2Be to raise awareness of the importance of children and young people's mental health. This year's these is Let's Connect.

Let's Connect is about making meaningful connections. Human beings thrive in communities and from establishing health connections with family and friends which are vital for the sense of wellbeing and mental health.

Beechcroft took part in the week and children were involved in whole school and classroom activities planned by the PSHE Focus Group. The week was launched with a Worship lead by the Focus Group.

Throughout the week children had many opportunities to discuss mental health and got involved in a range of activities to support this.

Activities included:

  • Whole School Mexican Wave - Year 4 child- 'It made me feel more included in the school'
  • Sharing reading across classes - Year 5 child - 'I enjoyed connecting with other children through stories'
  • Mental Health activities at break and lunch clubs - Year 5 child - 'I liked having someone where to go to talk and be listened to'
  • Classes joining for sports - Year 3 child - 'I loved it! I learnt new skills and different ways to communicate.'
  • Being creative through art, movement and song- Reception child - 'I liked filling my kindness bucket up with hugs.'
  • Writing cards to those in the community - Year 6 child - 'It made me think about how lucky we are where we live and appreciate things.'
  • Dress to Express day on Friday - Year 2 child - 'I loved being able to express myself and feel happy who I am'

It was great to share with parents what the children had been doing during the week as classroom doors were opened earlier.
