Design and technology offers a change for children to be active participants in their learning, using a range of tools and equipment to solve real life problems whilst developing resilience as they come across difficulties. At Beechcroft St Paul’s, we believe that design and technology should give children agency to understand the world more clearly – to see that they have the opportunity to make changes for the better and to give them confidence to try, by ensuring they have a good understanding of the design, make, evaluate, apply process and applying this to real life problems. Build it to this is an inherent belief in sustainability and environmental awareness; children are exposed to problems that require them to reuse materials and create sustainable products. In addition, our focus on healthy eating promotes a deep understanding of the role seasonal, healthy food can play in promoting healthy lifestyles.
