Our Curriculum

At Beechcroft St Paul’s, we believe every child and adult should thrive—personally, spiritually, and academically. Rooted in our vision, Soaring with Compassion, and inspired by St Paul’s words in Philippians, our curriculum is shaped by the Christian values of hope, respect, and wisdom.

We are committed to providing a purposeful and empowering curriculum that prepares every child for the next stage of their education and opens doors to the wider world. Core literacy and numeracy skills are central to all that we do, forming the strong foundations upon which broader learning is built. Our  curriculum is designed to spark curiosity, inspire ambition and nurture a lifelong love of learning.

Our curriculum is shaped by our key drivers: Broadening Our Horizons, Understanding Our Place in the World, and Becoming Responsible Decision Makers. Through carefully planned experiences, enrichment opportunities and meaningful learning, we encourage children to look beyond their immediate surroundings, aspire confidently and engage with the wider world.

We celebrate our local community and heritage while ensuring pupils develop a deep understanding of their role within an increasingly diverse and interconnected society. Significant individuals – from local, national and international contexts – are thoughtfully woven throughout our curriculum so that children see themselves and others represented. In doing so, we promote inclusion, empathy and respect, helping pupils understand both their own identity and the perspectives of others.

Our sequential curriculum is coherently planned to ensure that knowledge builds cumulatively over time. Substantive and disciplinary knowledge lie at the heart of each subject, with carefully designed links across areas of learning to strengthen understanding and support long-term retention. We are proud of our collective, evidence-informed practice and our shared pedagogy, which reflects our belief that learning is a lifelong pursuit.

We recognise that memory is fundamental to learning. Therefore, we strategically plan opportunities for pupils to revisit, retrieve and apply prior knowledge, enabling them to think deeply and make meaningful connections. By building on what they already know, children develop broader understanding, deeper knowledge and the confidence to become thoughtful, responsible decision makers.

These drivers help every child grow in confidence, character, and compassion—ready to soar in all they do.

At Beechcroft St Paul’s, all class teachers are responsible for providing a curriculum that is suitable for all pupils in the class, including those with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND) with support from the Inclusion Lead. We have high expectations for all pupils and are committed to ensuring our curriculum complies with the Equality Act 2010 and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014. Our SEND Information Report emphasises the importance of providing an inclusive learning environment for all pupils including those with SEND. Additional information on this can be found in our SEND Policy and on the SEND section of our website. For any parents with queries regarding SEND provision, contact should be made in the first instance with Miss Stuart, Inclusion Lead, via the school office: (01305) 783500 or office@beechcroft.dsat.org.uk
